Uttar Pradesh, a state in India, has 75 districts, including Ambedkar Nagar. This district is located in the state’s Awadh area and is a part of the Ayodhya division. On September 29, 1995, portions of the former Faizabad district—now known as the Ayodhya district—were divided to create this new district. It was designed by Mayawati, the chief minister at the time, and was named for B. R. Ambedkar, who fought to improve the lot of the downtrodden people. The district of Ambedkar Nagar has 2350 square kilometers.
