Amethi, the 72nd district of Uttar Pradesh, was created on July 1, 2010, by the combination of two tehsils from the former Raebareli district, Salon and Tiloi, and three tehsils from the former Sultanpur district, Amethi, Gauriganj, and Musafirkhana.
