The town of Fatehpur Sikri is located in Uttar Pradesh, India’s Agra District. 35.7 kilometers (22.2 miles) from Agra’s district headquarters, Emperor Akbar established Fatehpur Sikri as the capital of the Mughal Empire in 1571. It held this position until 1585, when Akbar left it for a battle in Punjab, and it was finally abandoned entirely in 1610
