In the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, there is a town and municipal board called Nagina in the Bijnor district.
Name
Paul Whalley says that the name Nagīnā may have originated from the Sanskrit word nāga-ina, which means “snake lord,” through a regularly-derived intermediary form *Nāgena. Nagina, which also means “Jewel” (see Negin), was given its name by the Syed family, who were granted this location as jagir by the Mughals.
