In Uttar Pradesh, India’s Hardoi district has the town and nagar palika parishad (municipal board) of Pihani. The city was once a hub for the manufacture of swords, earning it the moniker “the Damascus of Oudh” from at least one British author. These days, Pihani’s major industries are woven carpets and jaggery. 5,626 households with a total population of 36,014 as of 2011. Additionally, Pihani houses the Shahabad Tehsil community development block’s administrative offices.
