The capital and largest city of the Indian state of Uttarakhand is Dehradun (/ˊdɛrəˈduːn/), popularly referred to as Dehra Doon. The Dehradun Municipal Corporation oversees it as the administrative center of the district of the same name. The Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly convenes its winter sessions in the city, which serves as its winter capital.[13] One of the “Counter Magnets” of the National Capital Region (NCR) being developed as an alternative center of growth to help ease the migration and population explosion in the Delhi metropolitan area and to establish a smart city in the Himalayas is Dehradun, which is part of the Garhwal region and houses the headquarters of its Divisional Commissioner.
