The easternmost district in the state of Uttarakhand is Pithoragarh district. With a population of 483,439 (as of 2011) and an area of 7,110 km2 (2,750 sq mi), it is situated in the Himalayas. Its headquarters are in the Saur Valley city of Pithoragarh. The district is located in the state of Uttarakhand’s Kumaon division. Nepal is located to the east, and the Tibet plateau is to the north. The eastern border with Nepal is formed by the Kali River, which rises in the Kalagiri Mountain and travels south.
