One of the seven divisions of the Indian state of Uttarakhand is the city of Kashipur, which is located in the Udham Singh Nagar district. It is the third most populated city in Kumaun and the sixth most populous in Uttarakhand, and it is situated in the western portion of the Udham Singh Nagar district. The population of Kashipur city is 121,623, and the population of Kashipur Tehsil is 283,136, as per the 2011 Indian Census. One of the thirteen Indian Institutes of Management that the government established during the Eleventh Five-year Plan is IIM Kashipur, which is also located in Kashipur. Although Kashipur was formerly a part of Kumaun, it was called for Kashinath Adhikari, who was one of the officials of the Chand Kings of Kumaun in the 16th century and the founder of the city and pargana.
