In the Indian state of West Bengal, the district of Bankura serves as an administrative division. It is a part of West Bengal’s five administrative divisions, the Medinipur division. Purba Bardhaman and Paschim Bardhaman districts border the district from the north, Purulia district borders it from the west, Jhargram district borders it from the south, Paschim Medinipur district borders it from the east, and a portion of Hooghly district borders it from the east. The Damodar River divides the northern portion of Bankura district from the majority of Burdwan district. The town of Bankura is home to the district headquarters.
