The district known as Cooch Behar is located in the Indian state of West Bengal.

The region was formerly a part of the Kamarupa kingdom, but in the twelfth century it became the center of the Kamata kingdom. The region was known as Cooch Behar State during the British Raj, and the Koch dynasty ruled it until 1949, when it joined India.
