Paschim Medinipur district, often known as West Medinipur in English or Midnapore in other spellings, is a district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Following the division of Midnapore into Paschim Medinipur and Purba Medinipur, it was established on January 1, 2002. The Jhargram subdivision was elevated to the status of district on April 4, 2017. The West Midnapore district has a GDP of USD 12 billion.
