In the Indian state of West Bengal, there is a town and a municipality called Tamluk. It serves as the district’s headquarters for Purba Medinipur. While there is some disagreement, academics largely concur that Tamluk, which is currently situated on the banks of the Rupnarayan River near the Bay of Bengal, is the location of the ancient city known variously as Tamralipta or Tamralipti, where Chinese traveler Hien Chang visited.
