The main city of the Veneto region is Venice, which is located in northeastern Italy. Built on a collection of 126 islands divided by canals and wide stretches of open water, the city is connected by 472 bridges. Situated between the mouths of the Po and Piave rivers, or more precisely between the Brenta and the Sile, the islands are situated in the shallow Venetian Lagoon, an enclosed harbor. Approximately 258,685 individuals called the Comune di Venezia, or greater Venice, home in 2020.
