Luxembourg is a tiny landlocked nation in Western Europe, formerly known as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg[b]. Germany to the east, France to the south, and Belgium to the west and north form its borders. The capital and most populated city of the EU, Luxembourg City, is home to various EU institutions, including the Court of Justice of the European Union, which is the highest judicial body. Luxembourg City is one of the four institutional headquarters of the EU, along with Brussels, Frankfurt, and Strasbourg. France and Germany have a significant influence on Luxembourg’s culture, people, and languages. For instance, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and its citizens only speak Luxembourgish, a Germanic language, as their national language. French is also the only language used for legislation.
