Northeastern New Zealand’s Gisborne District, sometimes known as the Gisborne Region, is a local government region. Gisborne District Council, a unitary authority having the combined powers of a district and regional council, is in charge of overseeing it. Gisborne, the largest settlement there, is the name of the region. The East Coast is another frequent name for the area.
