Of the 16 local government regions in New Zealand, the northernmost one is called the Northland Region[4] (Te Tai Tokerau in Māori). Its year-round pleasant climate is why New Zealanders frequently refer to area as the Winterless North. The major town is Kerikeri, and the primary population center is Whangārei. Northland has experienced a rapid increase in population, amounting to 18.1% since the 2013 census. This makes it the fastest growing region in New Zealand, surpassing other high-growth regions like Waikato (3rd with 13.5%) and the Bay of Plenty Region (2nd with 15%).[
