Waikato is a part of New Zealand’s upper North Island. In addition to including the Waikato, Waipa, Matamata-Piako, South Waikato, and Hamilton City districts, it also includes Hauraki, the Coromandel Peninsula, the northern King Country, a large portion of the Taupō District, and portions of the Rotorua Lakes District. It is under the Waikato Regional Council’s jurisdiction.
