Formally known as the Kingdom of Norway, Norway (Bokmål: Norge, Nynorsk: Noreg) is a Nordic nation in Northern Europe that is located on the Scandinavian Peninsula. Norway also includes the Svalbard archipelago and the isolated Arctic island of Jan Mayen.[Note 5] Norway claims the Antarctic regions of Peter I Island and Queen Maud Land in addition to the dependency Bouvet Island, which is situated in the Subantarctic. Oslo is the largest and capital city of Norway.

With a total size of 385,207 square kilometers (148,729 square miles), Norway is home to 5,488,984 people as of January 2023. The nation and Sweden have a lengthy eastern border. Its borders are the Skagerrak Strait to the south, Finland and Russia to the northeast.
