After Durban, Pietermaritzburg is the capital and second-biggest city in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was given its current name, Msunduzi Local Municipality, in 1838. In Zulu, the settlement was given its name uMgungundlovu, the royal homestead of King Dingane. Pietermaritzburg is commonly referred to as Maritzburg in Afrikaans, and PMB is frequently used as an informal acronym. Producing dairy, lumber, and aluminum, it is a significant industrial center for the region and the center of the uMgungundlovu District Municipality’s economy. Because of the presence of district, local, and provincial government offices in the city, the public sector employs a large number of people.
