South Korea’s capital and largest city is Seoul. More than half of South Korea’s population lives in the Seoul Capital Area, which includes Gyeonggi province and Incheon metropolitan city. In 2014, it was the fourth-largest metropolitan economy in the world, behind only New York City, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. Seoul’s population has been steadily declining since 2014, and as of 2020, it stands at roughly 9.97 million people, despite having peaked at just over 10 million. The government of South Korea is headquartered in Seoul.
