Uganda’s largest and capital city is Kampala. With 1,875,834 residents as of 2024, the city proper is split up into five political districts: Kawempe, Makindye, Nakawa, Rubaga, and Kampala.
The city of Kampala itself as well as the nearby districts of Wakiso, Mukono, Mpigi, Buikwe, and Luweero make up the metropolitan region. With a population that is expected to increase quickly—6,709,900 people are anticipated to live there in 2019 by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, covering an area of 8,451.9 km2 (3,263.3 square miles). The metropolitan region is estimated to have four million residents based on other figures.
