Alaska is a non-contiguous U.S. state located near North America’s northwest corner. It is located in the western part of the US. Hawaii is the only other non-contiguous state in the union. In addition, Alaska is regarded as the state that is the furthest north, west, and east in the union (the Aleutian Islands span the 180th meridian into the eastern hemisphere). It shares borders with British Columbia province and the Yukon territory to the east. Its western marine boundary is the Bering Strait, which it shares with the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug of Russia. The Pacific Ocean is to the south, and the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas of the Arctic Ocean are to the north. It’s the biggest exclave in the world, yet officially it’s a semi-exclave of the United States.
