Arizona is a landlocked state in the Southwest region of the United States. Arizona is encircled by the Four Corners region, which extends to Utah to the north, Colorado to the northeast, and New Mexico to the east. Its other neighbors are the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California to the south and southwest, Nevada to the northwest, and California to the west. It is the 14th most populous and sixth largest state among the 50 states. Phoenix is the largest city and the capitol of the state with the highest population in the union.

Arizona was admitted to the Union on February 14, 1912, making it the 48th and last state to join the Union.
