West Irving Park Road borders it on the north, North Ravenswood Avenue borders it on the west, West Diversey Parkway borders it on the south, and the coast of Lake Michigan borders it on the east. Lakeview is bordered to the north by the Uptown community area, to the northwest by Lincoln Square, to the west by North Center, and to the south by Lincoln Park. With 103,050 inhabitants in 2020, Lakeview was the second-largest Chicago community area in terms of population.
