The Argentine province of Chubut, located in Patagonia, has its capital city of Rawson. With 24,616 residents as of 2010, it serves as the department’s principal town in Rawson.

The city bears the name of the Argentine Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Rawson (1821–1890), who encouraged the settling of Welsh people in Argentina.

The Almirante Marco Andrés Zar Airport in Trelew serves Rawson, which is situated 20 km (12 mi) from Trelew and 1,360 km (850 km) south of Buenos Aires. It is situated across the Chubut River.
