The capital and main city of Jujuy Province in northwest Argentina is San Salvador de Jujuy, also referred to as Jujuy or just San Salvador. Additionally, the Doctor Manuel Belgrano Department is housed there. It is located close to where the lowlands and wooded hills converge at the southern end of the Humahuaca Canyon.

237,751 people called it home as of the 2001 census, which was conducted by INDEC. When its suburbs are taken into account, this number increases to about 300,000.[2] Raúl Jorge is the mayor at the moment.
