Adelaide is located between the Mount Lofty Ranges to the east and the Gulf St. Vincent to the west on the Adelaide Plains, which are to the north of the Fleurier Peninsula. Its metropolitan area runs 96 km (60 mi) from Gawler in the north to Selicks Beach in the south, and it stretches 20 km (12 mi) from the coast to the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges.
