Canada’s capital city is Ottawa. It is situated at the meeting point of the Rideau and Ottawa rivers in the southern part of the province of Ontario. Ottawa is the center of the Ottawa–Gatineau census metropolitan area (CMA) and the National Capital Region (NCR). It shares a border with Gatineau, Quebec. With 1,017,449 residents in the city and 1,488,307 in the metropolitan area as of 2021, Ottawa is Canada’s fourth-largest city and fourth-largest metropolitan area.[
Ottawa serves as both the federal government’s headquarters and the political hub of Canada. The Parliament of Canada, the Supreme Court, and other important Canadian government buildings and institutions are located in the city, along with a large number of foreign embassies.
