One of the biggest cities in the Americas, Santiago, usually referred to as Santiago de Chile (Spanish:), is the capital and largest city of Chile. Situated in the country’s central valley, it serves as the hub of the seven million-strong Santiago Metropolitan Region, which accounts for forty percent of Chile’s overall population.[4] The majority of the city is located 1,640–2,133 feet (500–650 meters) above sea level.
