China’s Shanxi Province is an inland province that is a part of North China. Taiyuan, the province’s capital and largest city, is followed in population by Changzhi and Datong, two prefecture-level cities.

“West of the Mountains” is how the province is named Shanxi, alluding to its position west of the Taihang Mountains.
