Denmark is a Nordic nation located in the south-central region of Northern Europe (Danish: Danmark, pronounced [ˈtaenmɑk]). It is the most populous and urbanized region of the unitary, constitutional state of Denmark, which also encompasses the North Atlantic Ocean’s autonomous regions of Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Situated to the south-west and south of Sweden, south of Norway[N 10], and north of Germany, with which it shares a short border, Metropolitan Denmark[N 9] is the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries.
