Northwest France contains the region known as Brittany (French: Bretagne, Breton: Breizh). Breton is the adjective for Brittany.
There are now four departments within the official administrative region:
Finistère Côtes-d’Armor Ille-et-Vilaine Morbihan
Prior to 1941, Nantes was a part of Loire-Atlantique, the fifth département that made up Brittany. The cultural region of Brittany (sometimes referred to as “historical Brittany”) is comprised of the five departments.
