In the Indian state of Sikkim, the district known as Soreng is headed by Soreng. The Sikkim (re-Organization of District) Act, 2021 formally separated Gyalshing District (formerly West Sikkim) into Soreng District in December 2021, making Soreng District the sixth district in Sikkim. Its borders are shared by Namchi district to the east, Nepal to the west, Gyalshing district to the north, and the Darjeeling district of West Bengal to the south.
