Anantapur, also known as Anantapuramu, is a city in the Andhra Pradesh state of India’s Anantapur district. It serves as both the divisional headquarters of the Anantapur revenue division and the mandal headquarters of the Anantapuru mandal.The National Highway runs through the city. In 1799, it served as the center of the Datta Mandalam, which included the Bellary district of Karnataka and the Rayalaseema districts of Andhra Pradesh. During World War II, it was also a strategically significant site for the British Indian Army.
