In the Indian state of Bihar, Sugauli is a notified area and a city located in the East Champaran district. It is best known for the Treaty of Sagauli, which was signed in 1816 between the British and Gurkhas, and for the part it played in Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha Movement. It is also the location of the signing of the treaty with Nepal, as well as the setting for Rudyard Kipling’s story “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” (spelled “Segowlee” in said story).
