The Indian state of Bihar contains the Vaishali district, which is part of the Mithila area. It belongs to the Tirhut division.[4] Vaishali is renowned for being the Jain religion’s birthplace of Mahavira. The district headquarters and major city, Hajipur, is renowned for its banana forest. The district is connected to the state capital Patna, the division headquarters Muzaffarpur, and the eastward district Samastipur by the NH-77 and NH-322 highways, as well as the Gandhi Setu and Jay Prakash Setu (JP Setu) Bridges over the Holy Ganga River.
