The southernmost district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh is called Sukma district. It is situated in the Bastar region, which is renowned for its aboriginal ways. Sukma district shares boundaries with the districts of Malkangiri in Odisha, Bhadradri Kothagudem in Telangana, and Alluri Sitharama Raju in Andhra Pradesh.
Situated near the southernmost point of Chhattisgarh, the district was formed in 2012 by splitting from Dantewada. It is mostly populated by Gonds and other tribal people and is covered in semitropical forest. The district has a very low population density of just 45 people per km2, with roughly 85% of its inhabitants being STs. Additionally, 65% of the district is covered in forest.
