Mandal is a town rich in history. The Rana of Mandal and Patri aided the Emperor Muhammad bin Tughluq in 1347 when he arrived to reestablish order in Gujarat and was decorated with robes and gifts. Mandal may have possessed some strength once more in 1395, as Muzaffar Shah of the Gujarat Sultanate besieged it. However, if a plague hadn’t struck the defenders, the siege would not have had any effect. A few years later, one of the chiefs who joined the uprising against Sultan Ahmed Shah I was Jhala Satarsalji of Mandal (1414)
