One of the 22 districts in the northern Indian state of Haryana, Mahendragarh district has four subdivisions: Narnaul, Mahendragarh, Nangal Chaudhary, and Kanina. Narnaul is the district’s administrative center and largest city. Mahendragarh is one of the few districts in India where the district’s name and its main town are different. Mahendragarh has five major towns in total: Narnaul, Mahendragarh, Nangal Chaudhary, Ateli, and Kanina. As of 2011, it is the third least populous district in Haryana (out of 21), after Panchkula and Rewari.
