The administrative center of the Kullu district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh is located in Kullu, a municipal council town. It is situated in the Kullu Valley, on the banks of the Beas River, around 6.2 miles (10 km) north of the airport in Bhuntar, Kullu.

Between Manali and, the Beas River forms the wide, open Kullu Valley. This valley is well-known for its temples, large apple orchards, and hills covered in forests of pine and deodar.
