Located in the Indian state of Karnataka, Shimoga district is often referred to as Shivamogga district[3]. The Sahyadri or Malnad region makes up a large portion of the Shimoga district. Its administrative hub is located in Shimoga City. The Jog Falls Viewpoint is a popular destination for tourists. The population of the Shimoga district is 17,52,753 as of 2011.[2] Soraba, Sagara, Hosanagar, Shimoga, Shikaripura, Thirthahalli, and Bhadravathi are the seven taluks. Before 1997, when the Davanagere district was established, Channagiri and Honnali were a part of the Shimoga district.
