Chengannuri in Kerala, India’s Alappuzha district. It lies roughly 98 km (60.9 mi) north of Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital, and 37 km (23.0 mi) south of the district headquarters at Alappuzha. Chengannur has 23,466 residents, with a population density of 1,607/km2 (4,160/sq mi) according to the 2011 Indian census.
Chengannur is now the main center of the Onattukara region’s economy and culture. The Old Syrian Church of the historic St. Thomas Christian community and the Chengannur Mahadeva Temple are the town’s two most famous landmarks. It has been called “The Gateway to Sabarimala” since it serves as a key hub for pilgrims visiting the Sabarimala Temple.
