One of the 14 districts in the Indian state of Kerala is Malappuram, which has a 70 km (43 km) coastline. Malappuram, the most populated district in Kerala, is home to almost 13% of the state’s total population. The district, which covered an area of roughly 3,554 km2 (1,372 sq mi), was established on June 16, 1969. In terms of area, it is the third-largest district in Kerala. On all sides, the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats encircle it. Seven Taluks comprise the district: Eranad, Kondotty, Nilambur, Perinthalmanna, Ponnani, Tirur, and Tirurangadi.
