Mother’s Day is a global celebration of mothers’ day observed in many nations. The holiday’s present incarnation arose in the US, where it is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. While some observe the event at various times of the year, many other nations also celebrate it on this date. On Laetare Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent, a tradition emerged throughout the Middle Ages permitting those who had moved away to visit their mothers and their home parishes. This evolved into Mothering Sunday in Britain, where it persisted to the present day, albeit Mother’s Day has essentially supplanted it.
