Parents’ Day is celebrated on May 8 in South Korea and on July 4th, Sunday, in the US. Mother’s Day, which was observed on May 8 before being replaced by the South Korean name in 1973, is celebrated both publicly and privately. President Bill Clinton established the United States Day in 1994. The United Nations has recently declared June 1 to be “Global Day of Parents” in honor of parents’ dedication to their children. In the Philippines, the first Monday of December is designated as Parents’ Day each year, though it is not rigorously observed or honored.
