The administrative district of Odisha state, located in eastern India, is called Balasore District, sometimes referred to as Baleswar District. One of Odisha’s coastal districts, Balasore is located in the state’s northernmost region.

Meaning and Origin
It is believed that the name Baleswar originated from the local term Baneswar, which was derived from the town’s reigning god, Lord Baneshwar (Lord Shiva). The Puruna Baleswar, also known as “Old Baleswar,” is home to the Baneswara Temple, a Siva temple.
