The capital of the Indian state of Odisha, Cuttack is the second largest city in the district and the former capital of Odisha. The name of the city is an anglicized form of the Odia and Sanskrit name Kataka, which literally means The Fort, a reference to the ancient Barabati Fort around which the city initially developed. Cuttack is also known as the Silver City because of its famous silver filigree works and its thousand-year history; it is home to the Orissa High Court and is the commercial capital of Odisha, hosting numerous trading and business houses in and around the city. Durga Puja is one of the most significant festivals in the state.
