In the northeast Indian state of Sikkim, in the Mangan district, lies the town and hill station of Lachung. The district headquarters is in Mangan Town, some 50 kilometers away. It is situated close to the Tibetan border in the Mangan district. Lachung is located near the meeting point of the Lachen and Lachung Rivers, which are both tributaries of the Teesta River, at an elevation of roughly 9,600 feet (2,900 meters). Lachung is a term that means “small pass”. The settlement is roughly 78 miles (125 km) from Gangtok, the capital.
