The Indian state of Tamil Nadu is made up of 38 districts, one of which is Viluppuram, sometimes known as Villupuram or Vizhuppuram. It was formerly a part of the Cuddalore district until its founding on September 30, 1993. Situated along the path of the national highway that links Tiruchirappalli and Chennai, the Vizhuppuram district is home to historical sites such as the 500-year-old Gingee Fort.
