In the Indian state of West Bengal, the town and city of Barasat are located in the North 24 Parganas district. It serves as the Barasat Sadar subdivision’s headquarters. It lies inside the boundaries of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) and not far from Kolkata. Barasat, a rail and road intersection in the Ganges delta, serves as a regional transportation center. The major routes that connect the city are National Highway 12 (previously NH 34/Krunagar Road towards North Bengal), NH 112 (formerly NH 35/Jessore Road, heading to the Bangladesh border at Petrapole), Taki Road, and Barrackpore-Barasat Road (both of which are part of SH 2).
